Mittens!

Hello! This past weekend, I went Christmas shopping. One of the items on my list, though not for a Christmas gift, was a pair of mittens for my little Katie-bear so she could explore our "arctic" front yard without getting frostbite. Unfortunately, all the mittens I could find came with cute little hats or were too big.

So I thought, "HEY! I have leftover fleece and some lining fabric from the hat I made her; I can MAKE a pair of mittens!" So I told my DH, "This should be a piece of cake since the mittens don't need thumbs. It should only take about an hour to finish!"

Was I wrong or what! I made the mitten pattern, cut the fabric, and then sewed it all together completely wrong somehow. I have it all visualized in my head, but I just couldn't get it right.

I guess I'll just have to give it another shot when I get some spare time!

Hello and Welcome!

Welcome to my blog and first post! I'm a mommy with a hobby and I wanted to start this blog mainly to have an outlet for my sewing excitement and to show off my creations! I love to challenge myself with sewing to see what I can accomplish.

A little bit about myself:
I've only been sewing for a little while now, but have finished a number of projects, especially recently, including a matching crib set, a winter hat, a flare shirt, a fleece jumper, and a mei tai baby carrier for my baby girl, a bag for crochet items for my mom, a few different costumes (over the years). I've only used patterns for the hat, the bag, and the crib set. Otherwise, I've always just made my own - and the costumes didn't even HAVE patterns, lol!

I'm sewing on a old Sears Kenmore machine that was manufactured in 1971-2 so an update might be in order...I'm also in the market for a serger so I can make my items look a little more professional. If anyone has suggestions for a good serger for a beginner, I'm all eyes!!!

Upcoming projects include: a mei tai for a friend of mine, some 'everyday' baby clothes, a coming-home dress for baby #2, a set of curtains for the girls' room and for our room, and maybe some Thanksgiving and Christmas decorations.

I have a baby girl who is now 10 months old (not so much a baby anymore, right?), and am expecting another baby girl in March 2011! Hooray! My wonderful husband is pretty supportive of my sewing hobby and loves that I can make things with a needle and thread.

I hope to be able to post patterns and instructions I made so that others can use them too, but I don't know what Blogger can do, so let's keep our fingers crossed.

I'm about to start another project, so look for updates soon!
